Description:

The Pajama Cardinalfish (Sphaeramia nematoptera) is a calm, reef-safe species known for its distinctive appearance and peaceful nature. Its striking coloration includes a silver-green front half, a bold black midsection band, and a polka-dotted rear, making it a standout in any marine aquarium. Large, red-orange eyes help it navigate and hunt in dim lighting, as it is naturally more active during dawn and dusk.

This species is best kept in small groups, as it enjoys the company of its own kind. Unlike some cardinalfish, Pajama Cardinals remain peaceful and non-aggressive, making them excellent community fish that thrive alongside other non-aggressive tank mates.

Being carnivorous, the Pajama Cardinalfish benefits from a varied diet of meaty foods, such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, finely chopped seafood, and high-quality frozen preparations. It will also accept pellets and flakes, though meaty foods should be the primary source of nutrition.

This species is reef-safe and does not disturb corals or invertebrates, making it a great choice for reef aquariums. A tank with rockwork or caves for shelter is ideal, as they prefer some level of cover, especially when adjusting to new environments.

With its hardy nature, unique coloration, and peaceful temperament, the Pajama Cardinalfish is a fantastic option for both beginner and experienced aquarists looking for a visually striking and easy-to-care-for species.
