Description:

The Midas Blenny (Ecsenius midas) is a vibrant and charismatic addition to any reef or fish-only marine aquarium. Its golden-yellow body, often with subtle blue highlights around the eyes and gills, makes it a striking contrast in a saltwater setup. Unlike many other blennies, the Midas Blenny has a graceful, eel-like swimming style, often seen gliding in open water rather than perching.

This species is peaceful and thrives in a well-established tank with plenty of rockwork and hiding spots. It naturally inhabits reef crevices in the wild, darting in and out for safety. Though generally docile, it may become territorial toward similar-shaped fish, such as other blennies.

The Midas Blenny has an omnivorous diet, primarily feeding on planktonic crustaceans in the wild. In captivity, it readily accepts a varied diet, including high-quality marine pellets, frozen foods (Mysis and brine shrimp), and spirulina-based options. Supplementing with marine-based algae and small amounts of meaty foods helps maintain its vibrant coloration and overall health.

A secure lid is recommended, as the Midas Blenny has been known to jump when startled. Given its hardy nature and peaceful temperament, it is an excellent choice for both beginners and experienced aquarists.
