Overview:

The Powder Brown Tang is a beautiful and highly active species that makes a stunning addition to reef and fish-only tanks. Its velvety brown body, accented with white patches and orange highlights, creates an eye-catching display as it swims. Known for its algae-grazing behavior, this tang also plays a functional role in maintaining a clean tank environment.

Habitat and Behavior:

Native to the coral reefs of the Western Pacific, the Powder Brown Tang is an active swimmer that thrives in tanks with open swimming space and plenty of live rock for grazing. Although generally peaceful, it can be semi-aggressive toward other tangs or fish with a similar body shape. It's best to introduce it last if keeping multiple tangs.

Diet:

A herbivore by nature, the Powder Brown Tang thrives on a diet rich in marine-based algae. Offer dried seaweed (nori), spirulina flakes, herbivore pellets, and blanched vegetables such as lettuce or spinach. They will also graze naturally on algae within the tank, making them ideal for algae control.

Care Tips:

The Powder Brown Tang requires a spacious tank of at least 125 gallons due to its active swimming needs. Good water quality, stable parameters, and regular maintenance are critical to their health. They are reef-safe but may occasionally nip at macroalgae if underfed. Provide a secure lid, as they are prone to jumping when startled.
