Overview:
The Lemon Meringue Wrasse, also known as the Yellow and White Wrasse or Banana Wrasse, is a stunning fish with its vibrant yellow body and elegant swimming behavior. A favorite among aquarists, this wrasse brings both beauty and utility to the tank, as it helps control pests by preying on small invertebrates.
Habitat and Behavior:
Found along coral reefs in the Indo-Pacific, the Lemon Meringue Wrasse is an active and inquisitive fish. It spends its time swimming around the tank and foraging through the sand and rockwork. While generally peaceful, it may show semi-aggressive behavior toward smaller tankmates, especially in smaller tanks.
Diet:
This carnivore thrives on a diet of meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, chopped seafood, and small crustaceans. It will also accept high-quality frozen foods, marine pellets, and flake foods. Feeding 2-3 times daily is recommended to maintain its energy and coloration.
Care Tips:
A sandy substrate is ideal, as the wrasse may burrow or hide at night. Provide plenty of live rock for foraging and hiding. While they are generally considered reef-safe with corals, they may prey on small shrimp, snails, and other invertebrates, so monitor closely in mixed setups. A secure lid is essential, as they are prone to jumping.
